Beowulf
By: Gummere (trans.)
Published by: The Floating Press

Beowulf is an Old English heroic epic poem of anonymous authorship. This work of Anglo-Saxon literature dates to between the 8th and the 11th century, the only surviving European manuscript dating to circa 1010. At 3183 lines, it is notable for its length. It has risen to national epic status in England. In the poem, Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, battles three antagonists: Grendel, who is attacking the Danish mead hall called Heorot and its inhabitants; Grendel's mother; and, later in life after returning to Geatland (modern southern Sweden) and becoming a king, an unnamed dragon. He is mortally wounded in the final battle, and after his death he is buried in a barrow in Geatland by his retainers. The Best American Erotic Poems
By: Lehman, David
Published by: Scribner Ebooks

There is a deep tradition of eroticism in American poetry. Thoughtful, provocative, moving, and sometimes mirthful, the poems collected in The Best American Erotic Poems celebrate this exuberant sensuality. These poems range across the varied landscapes of love and sex and desire -- from the intimate parts of the body to the end of an affair, from passion to solitary self-pleasure. With candor and imagination, they capture the delights and torments of sex and sexuality, nudity, love, lust, and the secret life of fantasy. David Lehman, the distinguished editor of the celebrated Best American Poetry series, has culled a witty, titillating, and alluring collection that starts with Francis Scott Key, Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, and Hart Crane, encompasses Frank O'Hara, Anne Sexton, John Updike, Charles Simic, Billy Collins, Kevin Young, and Sharon Olds, and concludes with the rising stars of a whole new generation of versifiers, including Sarah Manguso, Ravi Shankar, and Brenda Shaughnessy. In a section of the book that is sure to prompt discussion and further reading, the living poets write about their favorite works of erotic writing. This book will delight, surprise, and inspire. more...

Best Practices in Government Information
By: Lynden, Irina (ed.); Wu, Jane (ed.)
Published by: K.G.Saur

A rare opportunity to discover international trends and developments in access to government information is presented to you in selected papers from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East , Oceania and Russia. Originally presented at seminars and open sessions of the IFLA Government Information and Official Publications Section (GIOPS) over the past five years, the papers have been thoroughly reviewed and updated by their authors. As this volume illustrates, providing access to government information in whatever form presents enormous challenges. Issues range from basic to sophisticated: public access, including censorship; legislation, facilities for the user, including training; and the possibilities for enhancement of on-line information, through maps, statistics, videos, and sound. Underlying all is access and use of government documents to increase political literacy. The editors highly recommend this book to practitioners of government document management, to Reference and Public Service staff, to library educators and to the information literate in all walks of life. more...

Blake and Modern Literature
By: Larrissy, Edward
Published by: Palgrave Macmillan, Ltd.

William Blake is one of the most important influences on twentieth-century literature. This is true both for Modernism and for postmodernism.
