Sexuality and Fertility Issues in Ill Health and Disability
By: Balen, Rachel (ed.); Crawshaw, Marilyn (ed.)
Published by: Jessica Kingsley Publishers
This groundbreaking text explores sexuality and fertility issues for young people living with ill health or disability. This subject is often considered taboo, although for some of those coping with sexual or fertility impairment, it can be as difficult as coping with the disability or health condition itself. Bringing together personal, professional and academic perspectives from a variety of disciplines and located within a life-course development framework, this book takes a holistic view of young people moving towards adulthood and examines the impact of illness or disability on their sexual and fertile identities. The broad range of chapters includes the experiences of minority ethnic groups, managing relationships, fertility preservation and treatment, and the transition to parenthood. Professionals working with adolescents and young adults will find this book a rich source of insights, information and guidance.

Stop the Bullying
By: Rigby, Ken
Published by: Australian Council for Educational Research
What to do about bullying in schools is an ever-expanding field, requiring constant
monitoring as new ideas appear and new resources become available. With the publication
of this second edition of Stop the Bullying I have been able to take recent developments
into account in revising some of the contents of the earlier edition and adding
further material of a practical nature.
The issue of whether schools in Australia should take action against bullying is now
well and truly over. The question has become: How can schools best deal with the problem?
There remains a need for schools to work out what, among many, are the best
courses of action for them to take and what resources are available for them to carry
out agreed plans as effectively as possible.
In revising this handbook I have kept in mind that anti-bullying initiatives are
unlikely to be effective without widespread support from the school community, that is
from staff, students and parents. I have therefore further emphasised the need for
informed and thorough discussion of the issues, in the first instance by members of
each schools staff. I know that individual teachers, like members of the community at
large, are apt to have different opinions about what to do. These differences are healthy
but need to be brought out into the open and discussed in a non-judgemental manner.
To this end, in this edition I have provided a series of questions in a questionnaire to
help teachers discover where they and their colleagues stand, as a prerequisite to reaching a joint decision on what to do.
I am also aware that bullying is not only an issue among children. It can also involve
adults, as workplace research is now showing. Accordingly, I have provided a section in
this edition that I hope will assist in taking a more comprehensive look at the problem.
A major contribution of this handbook lies in informing schools about resources for
addressing bullying. Teachers are no longer alone in their

Support Groups for Older People Who Have Been Abused
By: Pritchard, Jacki
Published by: Jessica Kingsley Publishers
In this thought-provoking book, Jacki Pritchard shows how support groups for victims of elder abuse provide invaluable opportunities for the voices of older people to be heard. Following groups through a two-year period, she discusses how they were set up and the difficulties encountered and overcome, linking these experiences to group work theory. She presents qualitative material alongside guidance for how to undertake practical and therapeutic work with male and female survivors. Presenting the implications of her findings regarding the interplay of child abuse, domestic violence and adult abuse, she highlights the need for professionals to recognise close links between the different types of abuse. Pointing to an important and new area of professional intervention in elder abuse, the author provides clear guidelines about who can benefit from group work and how survivors can heal and work together.

Supporting the Child and the Family in Paediatric Palliative Care
By: Brown, Erica; Warr, Brian
Published by: Jessica Kingsley Publishers
'This book is very timely in contributing to the future of this essential aspect of care for increasing numbers of our nation's children... [It] contains a wealth of useful information and reflects innovative research findings from Acorn Children's Hospices that raise key issues for future consideration.'. - from the Foreword by Sheila Shribman. Supporting the Child and the Family in Paediatric Palliative Care provides a comprehensive overview of good practice in caring for terminally-ill children, young people and their families. Drawing from extensive personal experiences of working in paediatric palliative care, the author provides guidance on issues including symptom management and pain relief; cultural, religious and spiritual aspects of care; and the role of education for life-limited children. Addressing the importance of individual needs, the book looks at emotional, social and cognitive support at different stages of the illness, how parents and professionals can respond to children's own questions about death, and the impact of life-limiting illness on the whole family - including grandparents and siblings. The material offers helpful suggestions on how to support families in making informed choices during distressing periods, such as where their child will die and how to prepare for the funeral. This sensitive text will be a practical and invaluable tool for nurses, paediatricians, hospice care staff, bereavement counsellors and all those caring for life-limited children.
