Architecting Enterprise Solutions
By: Dyson, Paul; Longshaw, Andrew
Published by: John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (UK)
A practical, nuts-and-bolts guide to architectural solutions that describes step-by-step how to design robustness and flexibility into an Internet-based systemBased on real-world problems and systems, and illustrated with a running case studyEnables software architects and project managers to ensure that nonfunctional requirements are met so that the system won't fall over, that it can be maintained and upgraded without being switched off, and that it can deal with security, scalability, and performance demands.

Architecture-Independent Programming for Wireless Sensor Networks
By: Bakshi, Amol B.; Prasanna, Viktor K.
Published by: Wiley-Interscience
New automated, application-independent methodology for designing and deploying sensor networks. Following this book's clear explanations, examples, and illustrations, domain experts can design and deploy nontrivial networked sensing applications without much knowledge of the low-level networking aspects of deployment. This new approach is based on the Abstract Task Graph (ATaG), a data-driven programming model and an innovative methodology forarchitecture-independent programming and automatic software synthesis for sensor networks. ATaG programs are concise, understandable, and network-independent descriptions of global application functionality that can be automatically compiled onto any target deployment. The book begins with an overview chapter that addresses the important issues of programming methodologies and compares various programming models for sensor networks. Next, the authors set forth everything you need for designing and deploying sensor networks using ATaG, including:. *. Detailed description of the ATaG model's features. *. System-level support for architecture-independent programming. *. Examination of the graphical programming and software synthesis environment for ATaG. *. Case study illustrating the process of end-to-end application development and software synthesis using ATaG. Throughout the book, the authors provide code excerpts and figures to help clarify key concepts and explain each step. For programmers, the graphical formalism of the ATaG program, coupled with the fact it uses an existing language (Java), means that no special training is needed to start developing and deploying applications in ATaG. Everything you need to know is clearly set forth in this book.

Building a Cisco Wireless LAN
By: Ouellet, Eric; Padjen, Robert; Blankenship, Tim (ed.); Fuller, Ron (ed.); et al.
Published by: Syngress Publishing
Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) technology is significantly more complex than cordless telephony; loss, coverage, and bandwidth requirements are much more stringent and the proliferation of wireless LANs in corporate environments has resulted in interesting security challenges. IEEE 802.11-based products offered by Cisco Systems have quickly become one of the foundational technologies fostering the untethering of data communications. Building a Cisco Wireless LAN will bring you up to speed fast with Cisco Wi-Fi technology.

CAFE: An Industrial-Strength Algebraic Formal Method
By: Futatsugi, K.; Nakagawa, A.T.; Tamai, T.
Published by: Elsevier Science
This book contains selected papers on the language, applications, and environments of CafeOBJ, which is a state-of -the-art algebraic specification language. The authors are speakers at a workshop held in 1998 to commemorate a large industrial/academic project dedicated to CafeOBJ. The project involved more than 40 people from more than 10 organisations, of which 6 are industrial. The workshop attracted about 30 talks and more than 70 attendees. The papers in the book however, are either heavily revised versions presented at the workshop, to reflect recent advancements or research; or completely new ones, written especially for this book. In this regard, the book is not a usual postpublication after a workshop. Also, although it is a compendium of papers that are related to CafeOBJ, the book is not a manual, reference, or tutorial of CafeOBJ. Probably the best description is that it is a collection of papers that investigate how to use, or to make it easy to use, CafeOBJ. Reflecting the diverse nature of the project and its participants (most of the authors are participants to the project), the papers, put together, offer a comprehensive picture from this methodological perspective. Some papers deal with various advanced aspects of the language, such as rewriting logic and behavioural logic. For rewriting logic, a couple of significant applications were reported. In particular, UML, now considered de facto standard language for modelling systems, is the subject of one paper. For behavioural logic, new methodological guidelines are presented. Some papers shed new light on a more traditional paradigm in the language; order-sorted equational specifications. One paper, in particular, deal with a way to associate CafeOBJ with object-oriented programming. The other papers deal with environments for writing and vertifying specifications written in CafeOBJ. Underlying those papers are two major considerations: user interfaces for manipulating specifications, and systematic

Charging Communication Networks
By: Songhurst, D.J.
Published by: Elsevier Science
This book proposes that usage-based charging schemes are essential to generate the incentives necessary for efficient operation of multiservice networks. The rapid development of network technology is enabling sophisticated new services and applications which demand new charging models. The same technology provides the means to operate the right charging schemes. Some of the work done in the European collaborative project CA$hMAN (Charging and Accounting Schemes in Multiservice ATM Networks). This project combined performance and economic models of network resource usage and cutomer utility to construct simple but effective charging schemes which were implemented and trialled in an advanced management platform.
