Assessment of Climate Change for the Baltic Sea Basin
By: The BACC Author Team
Published by: Springer
This book offers an up-to-date overview of the latest scientific findings in regional climate research on the Baltic Sea Basin, including climate changes in the recent past, climate projections up until 2100 using the most sophisticated regional climate models available, and an assessment of climate change impacts on terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems. The authors demonstrate that the regional climate has already started to change, and will continue to do so - projections show that the region will become considerably warmer and wetter in some parts, but dryer in others. Terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems have already shown adjustments to increased temperatures, and are expected to face further changes in the near future. The BACC Author Team consists of more than 80 scientists from 13 countries covering various disciplines related to climate research and related impacts. BACC is a project within the BALTEX (Baltic Sea Experiment) Programme and a contribution to the World Climate Research Programme. Lead authors of the team include Hans von Storch, Anders Omstedt, Raino Heino, Heikki Tuomenvirta, Valery Vuglinsky, Bo Gustafsson, L. Phil Graham, Benjamin Smith, Joachim W. Dippner and Ilppo Vuorinen.

Atmospheric Boundary Layers
By: Baklanov, Alexander (ed.); Grisogono, Branko (ed.)
Published by: Springer
This collection of peer reviewed papers represents a concise, up-to-date summary of our current knowledge of planetary boundary layer (PBL) physics and parameterization. As such, it makes a major contribution to the interchange of knowledge and ideas between physicists, meteorologists and environmental modellers and sets out the course to be followed in subsequent research to improve PBL parameterizations in climate, numerical weather prediction, air quality, and emergency preparedness models. Major themes covered are: Nature and theory of turbulent boundary layers; Boundary layer flows ??? modelling and applications to environmental security; Nature, theory and modelling of boundary-layer flows; and Air flows within and above urban and other complex canopies ??? air-sea-ice interactions. The NATO Advanced Research Workshop, held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, 18-22 April 2006, that gave rise to this, book was attended by 57 scientists drawn from 21 countries on four continents. In recognition of his outstanding career and reaching the milestone age of 70, the workshop was dedicated to Professor Sergej Zilitinkevitch and a substantial number of contributions are based on or linked to his fundamental work.

Atmospheric Radiation
By: Goody, R. M.; Yung, Y. L.
Published by: Oxford University Press (US)
A complete revision of Goody's classic 1964 work, this volume offers a systematic discussion of atmospheric radiation processes that today are at the center of worldwide study and concern. It deals with the ways in which incident solar radiation is transformed into scattered and thermal radiation, and the thermodynamic consequences for the Earth's gaseous envelope, identifying aspects of the interaction between radiation and atmospheric motions as the central theme for atmospheric radiation studies. As a complete treatment of physical and mathematical foundations, the text assumes no prior knowledge of atmospheric physics. The theoretical discussion is systematic, and can therefore be applied with minor extension to any planetary atmosphere.
